About PALS
PALS was founded in March of 1989, in Lincoln County, Missouri as an all-volunteer, non-profit foster home animal rescue organization. We are an IRS 501(c)(3) certified charity licensed by the State of Missouri. We are the only shelter in Lincoln County with a facility open to the public daily.
Our basic goal is to find good homes for stray and abandoned animals. We are strong advocates of spay and neuter to help control animal populations.
When an animal is brought to the shelter we first check to see if there is any form of identification, either a collar with tags or a microchip, in order to reunite the pet with their family. Each animal is taken to the Vet, wormed, receives all vaccinations required, any other illness or wounds are treated, spayed or neutered and microchipped before being placed for adoption. Dogs are placed on heartworm preventative. All cats are tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (Fiv).
PALS is essentially a "no kill" shelter. The only time an animal is euthanized is if it is suffering from a terminal illness or wound or if it is incorrigibly vicious. Even in these circumstances, the decision to euthanize is not taken lightly and must be considered and approved by our Board of Directors. Other than for those reasons, a pet will have a caring home with PALS until adopted.
We strive to assist anyone in need by answering questions about pets, referral to other sources of aid and information, assist with finding lost pets, and help potential adopters find lifelong pets.
